Peter Leoni’s incredible 1800S restoration

Peter’s 1963 1800S restoration update.

I have been following along Peter’s restoration on a 1963 Volvo 1800S and the detail work is just incredible.

Peter used the red-block-red VP-Autoparts Xylene based paint. This paint is also thinned with Xylene and it is some stinky stuff but it goes on really well and appears to have excellent adhesion. A professional paint booth and equipment is a must. BTW, this paint is still made in Sweden!

VP-Autoparts also offer spray paint cans of the same product for convenience.

All peripheral components were painted separate for looks and preservation. Round device in center is not a Swedish space ship, it is the oil cooler that Volvo used on the early B18 engines.

Peter already had bought a new carpet set for this car but when he got wind of carpet made from Haargarn-Bouclé, he knew that he had to upgrade.

This is the same material you would find in a Mercedes or Porsche from the same era.

I gotta say, there is a difference.

Note fully detailed seat tracks even if you will never see them after the seats are installed.

Yup, would drive!

Picture this: You have already adorned your favorite driving shoes and those wonderful tan leather driving gloves you got for Christmas. Next, you plant your behind in these red Swedish leather seats, running your hands over the luxus Haargarn-Bouclé carpet.
Once comfortable, you grab that black sports steering wheel that was designed by Pelle Petterson in 1957 and turn the ignition making the 1.8 liter B18 engine come to life. Time to tour some two-lane black tops!
