Peter Leoni’s Incredible 1963 Volvo 1800S restoration, part 2

Peter is doing a full restoration on a 1963 Volvo 1800S, chassis number 6023. This makes it the 23rd Volvo 1800 assembled by Swedes in Sweden!

This is the second installment on this restoration and his amazing workmanship. We already know that Peter is a perfectionist so some of these pictures will speak for themselves.

The old soiled door panels could probably clean up OK but will never be like new. They may end up saving some other original car.

This is the bottom part and arm rest with door handle, it is also in pretty good condition.

Someone installed speakers in the kick panels. Maybe that was OK in 1964 but now the car will be original.

Peter replaced the card board with new product.

The speaker holes are no longer after Peter did “body work” on them.

Once he got the panel the way he wanted, it was recovered with correct red vinyl. Also, the chrome strip could now be re-installed.

Like new!

Peter does his own plating as well. Here are the restored seat sliders.

The bottom seat frame was painted and upholstered according to factory specs.

Seat bottom frame installed. Looks amazing with that red carpet as backdrop!

Seat back rest. The center knob is for adjustment.

Looks pretty comfy, eh? There is a lot of tugging and heat gun action when you do upholstery. This looks amazing.

Passenger seat in…wouldn’t you want to ride along??

Driver’s seat

…aaaand both seats. Imagine finding a car like this in the Volvo showroom in 1964. It must have left a serious impression!

If you are small or a small child, you can step in here and go for a ride in the “back seat”

Sill plates detailed and installed with correct chrome phillip head screws.

Weather stripping going in and don’t forget that little corner piece.

The original window regulators are in good condition but not good enough for Peter. He disassembled everything and replated all components.

Now the metal looks like this.

Vent windows were re-chromed and all new rubber of course.

Ready to go in the doors.

This is the door opening lever. Obviously not up to standard but not to worry: Peter does his own chrome!

Re-chromed and ready for door.

Moisture barrier as per factory specs.

It doesn’t get any better than this!

A lot of time was spent making sure the body lined up nicely, this is paying off now.

Attention to detail is just superb.

Hood insulation in place.

Hood gap is perfect.

I am sure you noticed I am running out of adjectives to describe this amazing restoration but I think the pictures do speak for themselves. I am honored that Peter offered to share his work with me so the world can enjoy it.

I look forward to the finished pictures with the whole car on display.
